  Old Age Homes

In a frantic modern world, old and invalid are brutally sidelined and neglected. Old age is looked upon as a curse and generally aged people are distraught and disappointed.

At our Alwarkurichy (Tamil Nadu) mission station an old woman, 'Valli' came one day, disheveled and disoriented. She remained there day and night and refused to go back. She unveiled indeed a sorrowful story. With her husband no more and her only son having deserted her for long, virtually she had nobody to turn to. It was the death of her husband that devastated Valli and she started wandering around. And that was how she came to our mission station. Our missionaries treated her compassionately and let her remain there.

This inspired us to begin a home, Ashakendam in 2002 for the aged destitutes. Now there are 33 members, all have somewhat similar stories to tell as Valli's. All of them, being above 70 years, have old-age-related problems but they are satisfied and live peacefully. The doors of the Asha Kendram are open for such elderly people who are in search of a place to spend in solace the rest of their life.
